Assistant Voting Officer Position Summary

The Assistant Voting Officer (AVO) is responsible for the proper administration of the voting process during Advance Voting or on Election Day. The AVO records the information in the voting book and assists the voting officer in the conduct of the vote.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with setting-up, opening and disassembling of the voting station;
  • Assist the Voting Officer with processing voters;
  • Records voters’ names and any oaths taken, in the voting book; and
  • Assists the Voting Officer at the voting station with the counting of ballots.

Qualifications:

  • Competent and reliable;
  • Experience dealing with public relations;
  • Knowledge of the Electoral Division
  • Must be an eligible voter in the electoral division where employed as a VO;
  • Must be available to work a 15 hour day (6:00 a.m. 9:30 p.m.);
  • At least 18 years of age; and
  • Persons with a criminal record incurred in the last 5 years do not qualify,

As an employee, the Assistant Voting Officer:

Is not allowed to engage in partisan political activity from the time the oath of office is taken for the position at Elections Manitoba until duties are completed on Election Day (such activity will result in immediate cancellation of appointment).

Remuneration

The Advance Voting Assistant Voting Officer is paid $135.00 for work on Election Day. An additional $34.00 is paid to attend a training session. Payment is made about 3 weeks after Election Day. A T4 slip is issued for money earned.

The Election Day Assistant Voting Officer is paid $147.00 for work on Election Day. An additional $34.00 is paid to attend a training session. Payment is made about 3 weeks after Election Day. A T4 slip is issued for money earned.
