Important Dates


Key dates in the election calendar vary depending on whether it is a set date election or other election, for example, a byelection.

Important Dates: St. Boniface Byelection

  • Writ day (start of election period): June 19
  • Revision: June 22-28
  • Close of nominations: July 3, 1:00 p.m.
  • Advance voting: July 5-12
  • Last day to apply for absentee voting: July 14
  • Last day to apply for homebound voting: July 16
  • Election day: July 17
  • Campaign period: June 19 to September 17
  • Candidacy period: From the date a person becomes a candidate to September 17
  • Deadline for financial statements: November 19

    ByElection and other election


    Writ day (start of election period): The election period can begin with the issue of the writ between 28 and 34 days before election day.

    Targeted registration: May be held before an election and must end before the writ is issued. The preliminary voters list is available within two days after the writ is issued.

    Revision begins: Revision begins either on the Monday 29 days before election day or 22 days before election day, depending on writ day. Returning officers and registration agents operate from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.

    Close of nominations: Before 1:00 pm on the Monday 15 days before election day. Signed nomination papers must be submitted to the returning officer before 1:00 p.m. or they will not be accepted.

    Revision ends: Revision ends after four days. The revised voters list is available 18 days before election day. Returning offices remain open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.

    Advance voting: Held at returning offices and other locations from the Thursday 12 days before election day to the Thursday five days before election day. Most advance voting locations are open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm (noon to 6:00 pm Sunday). Not all advance voting stations are open on all days.

    Last day to apply for absentee voting: The Saturday before election day. Returning officers can accept applications until 8:00 pm.

    Last day to apply for homebound voting: The Monday before election day. Returning officers can accept applications until 8:00 pm.

    Election day: Tuesday; voting places are open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

    Campaign period: From writ day to two months after election day.

    Candidacy period: From the date a person becomes a candidate to two months after election day.

    Deadline for financial statements: Within four months after election day. Both candidates and registered parties must file election financial statements with Elections Manitoba.

    Note: Important dates that fall on a holiday (Sunday, for example) may be changed to the next working day.

    42ND GENERAL ELECTION


    Targeted Registration begins: Targeted registration may begin at any time before a set date election.

    Targeted Registration ends: Targeted registration ends by September 8. The preliminary voters list is available on September 8.
