Important Dates for Political Participants
  • Writ Day: start of election period
  • Preliminary Voters List: available 40 days before election day in a set date election, or two days before the close of nominations in the case of any other election
  • Close of Nominations: Before 1:00 pm on the TUESDAY 21 days before election day in a set date election, or MONDAY 15 days before election day in any other election. 
    Get signed nomination papers to the returning officer before 1:00 p.m. or they will not be accepted.
  • Revised Voters List: available following revision
  • Advance voting open at returning offices and other locations from the second Saturday before Election Day to the Saturday before Election Day 
  • Election Day: always on a Tuesday; voting stations are open 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Campaign Period: writ day to 2 months after Election Day
  • Candidacy Period: the date a person becomes a candidate (usually by winning a constituency association nomination) to 2 months after Election Day
  • Deadline for Financial Statements: 4 months after Election Day
    Both candidates and registered political parties must file election financial statements with Elections Manitoba within 4 months of election day.

Note: Important dates that fall on a holiday (Sunday, for example) may be changed to the next working day.
